I opened my mouth and got selected or elected, whichever!
Our District has a one day 50 miler on tap this fall. The person who was
working it has apparently fell by the wayside, so the Program Director asked
me if I would head it up (right after he gave me all the training dates for
SMF, DC training and JLT - I'm supposed to JUST be a CR/CC ;-0).
Okay, I'll plan it this week while I'm a Day Camp Webelos Leader and my
Troop is at camp (lots of driving folks!).
Seriously though - I've walked a few, but never planned nor supported any.
So, I think I have a fair handle on what I need to do, but I don't want to
Just wanted to get your suggestions on things to do, plan for, watch out
Plan to start early, possibly have Scouts camp overnight at start point and
be picked up at finish. Walking only with a day pack with water and lunch
and GORP (Or a nosebag or birdfeed, how do those words fit GORP?).
Intend to have stations along the way for additional water and power
drinks/snacks, plus aid stations.
Haven't made decision on if we will walk a loop or crooked line yet.
What do you say Scouts-L?
