Hello fellow Scouters!
I found a really great recipe on a Daytime TV show awhile back, and it
was such a big hit with the boys in my den, that I just thought I would
offer to share it with everyone here.
This substance, called "slime" when I was a kid, is a really oozy gooey
cool mess, but it is simple and LOTS of fun. It is REMARKABLY similar to
some expensive store-bought stuff made by Nickolodeon, called "Gak", if
any of you know what that is.
Be sure to let me know (via email) how your batch turned out and how well
the boys liked it. I am sure it will be lots of fun. But don't get it
on your clothes because it STAINS bigtime.
Here's the recipe:
In a large bowl, combine 1 cup white glue, 1 Tablespoon liquid tempra
paint, and 1 cup water. Mix until it is all one color. Set aside.
In another bowl measure 1 1/3 (one and a third) cup WARM water and add 4
teaspoons of Laundry Booster (20 Muleteam Borax). Stir until mostly
Add water/borax mixture to paint/glue mixture. Lift out with your hands
and squeeze out excess water. Have fun!
I Hope you all enjoy this. It is great to have at den meetings for the
boys to play with as a "gathering time" activity. I went to a local
Mexican Food restaurant and asked for some salsa containers and lids, and
it was perfect for the boys to take their "GAK" home with them!
I don't have any experience with Scouts, just Cubs, but I bet that even
the bigger boys would love making this stuff just as much as the little
men do. :-)
