What to do with Previous SPL's

I am looking for some advice or insight into a problem that I foresee in
We finally are making strides towards a Boy run troop, and have come to
somewhat of a dilemma. Our SPL and ASPL , as well as other positions will
change in September during out annual elections.
I am unsure what to do with the SPL and ASPL. These two positions were voted
on during a major reorganization of the troop. I don't expect the SPL to be
re-elected, nor do I expect the ASPL to be re-appointed.
What should I do with these two scouts. I am unsure about putting them back
in the patrols. I dont' want them to feel "Demoted".
I have thought about creating an Older Scout/Leadership Corp/Senior Patrol or
whatewver you want to call it. I just don't want to take the older
experienced scouts out of the patrols where they can do the most good.
I would really be interested in what some of the other troops do with their
"former" SPL's and ASPL's.
For those that are interested in this subject, I will gladly post, to the
LISTSERV, a summarized version of the mail that I received.
Yours in Scouting,
