Barbara and the group,
This will be a fun topic. Thanks for suggesting it. It will also help me
with the class I will be teaching at Akela's Retreat in the Fall.
My Cubs meet after school and take the bus to my house. So when they get
there at 3:35PM or so, they are starved. We "network" over our snack for
the gathering time - find out how the day went, catch up on news, remind
them of things. My DA and I also grab books and dues at this time. We
then try to move the guys into the suggested Program Plan game, preferably
active outdoor but it can be a quieter indoor game. Oh, we also check
uniforms at this time (more shirttail patrol than anything).
As we ran out of time often toward the end of the year, we more frequently
went directly from our gathering snack to our Opening with the flag. It
was particularly important to do this when we were practicing for our turn
with the Pack flag ceremony.
That's not terribly exciting but that's what we usually do. I'll be
looking forward to what others do.
It would be helpful in these posts if you state when you meet. Sometimes
we do things differently because we meet after school, after dinner,
Saturday morning etc.
