asked to become the ASSISTANT CM and see how I liked it and MAYBE in
eighteen months or so, take it over from there. Well, a scant six
months later, I have been thrust into the position (he moved to the
Carolinas...) a tad early and now where near prepared for the task.
Let me also add that, before I acquiesced to this, Council had
comvinced me to help in Roundtable this next season (Webelos group),
and to also teach cooking at our Cub Scout Day Camp next month. These
two tasks are far less daunting to me, and I feel fairly confident in
both of these roles. I was in Boy Scouts tooooooo long not to feel
comfortable with either cooking or woods lore. I have also handed over
the leadership of my Son's den to another willing dad (I am not insane,
I am also blessed with a VERY strong committee chair person, and
many experienced Den Leaders. Still, I want to make a difference, not
only in how I lead, but more importantly to the boys themselves. Will
this great council, full of Akelas, enlighten me as what mistakes and
pitfalls to avoid (besides over-volunteering) and also the areas that I
should be concentrating on as well. I do and have delegated much, and
time management is not what I am looking for here. What I want to know
is HOW do I impact these boys so that they grow to be the very best
that they can be.
