As a CM and former WDL (twice) I find this takes alot of time for my
WDL's. My suggestions:
1. Definitely visit the CO sponsored troop.
2. If other troops do not have a feeder pack, consider visiting at least
1 of them.
3. Put together a list of area Troops, their SM's phone number, and the
troop meeting time and place. Perhaps a description of their program,
if it is sports oriented or say specialize in back packing. Give it to
the Webelos parents. If they want to consider another troop, they will
have the information they need to visit.
4. After checking with my parents, I would provide the area SM's with a
list of Webelos eligible to cross. Those who are recruiting will use it
those who are not will not.
As CM I have also kept track of my 4th graders who are eligible by
age to join a troop (11 years or older). They may be readiness kids or repeated
a class. I have found that some are bored and ready for more. As CM, I
contact the parents, explain the above and give them the troop info. I
encourage them to visit more than 1 troop and MORE THAN ONCE. I have had
scouts visit a troop once, cross over and then decide that the best face
the troop put on for the Webelos visit, was not the weekly operation.
