I found a water purifier unit in our scout closet today. Unfortunately, I'm
not sure of it's history or cleanliness. It was in a bag which was fairly
dirty and the input and output hoses were missing (the one between the pump
and cartridge is in good condition). I wanted to know if there was a way to
determine if the cartridge was still good and if it is worthwhile getting a
new cartridge and replacement hoses. I also wondered if there is a good way
to clean the pump unit or if that was important. It is a First Need brand
(the basic $70 model). I do know that I can get a new cartridge and can get
plastic hoses to replace the missing ones. The pump unit looks like it is
in good shape though somewhat dirty. I haven't tried pumping water through
it yet. We will be needing a unit for two backpack trips this summer so I
would like to refurbish it if I can be confident that it will be effective.
I don't want to be in a situation where I am taking a chance on my health
and the troop's health.
If any of you have experience with this, I would appreciate your feed back.
