I was going to keep quiet on this one but...here comes a war story.
The Pack I am associated with has a "tradition" of "graduating" all the
boys together to the next rank. I am totally against it. Because of this
policy I am losing one scout from my den and I am lucky it is only one.
All the boys in my den finished their badge last January thru March, they
were forced to wait until a May 31 ceremony night to receive their badges.
The one boy who is leaving told me he was leaving because he earned his
badge and had to wait to receive it. His mother was also put off by this.
Her comment was that she didn't remember her other son having to wait,
what kind of group was I running (I am also ACM).
NEVER, NEVER, EVER make boys wait to receive their recognition. The boys
work hard for it, they deserve it.
It goes the same for girls. My daughter sulked at our May 31 ceremony
because she is waiting for her junior troop so she can get the 11
"merit" badges that she has earned (mostly in activities with our den).
