My name is Ed Faynor, I am new to the Scout-L server. I understand an
introduction is in order. My personal experience with Scouts was a
short-lived term in Cubs back when the Lion was still part of the
Advancement schedule. My experience then was very positive, but I
learned the very hard way that a Cub Scout really needs parental
support to be successful in the program. When my oldest boy decided
to join Cubs, my wife and I determined that we would be joining too.
Our support was centered on him, until in his first Weblos year,
problems in the management of the den led to the loss of
membership of 5 of the 8 original scouts. At my son's request, I
offered to help. After a review of my registration by the Committee
and a Fast-Start, I was a Weblos Leader. As they say "the rest is
history" . The three remaining Scouts progressed through Weblos
and two completed AoL. The two ( one is #1 son) bridged over in Feb.
to Troop 61 in Southbury CT. Of course, once bitten! My official
registration with The Troop is Committee Member, but I stand in as
an ASM. Four campouts since Feb, oh my aching bones! The story
continues: #2 son graduated last Friday into Weblos for next year.
His current Den Leader will be moving to a Tigers group in September.
I feel that you all are ahead of me here! Yes. I'm doing it again!
My self and an other dad (former Asst leader) will be doing the full day
Weblos Leader training this Saturday 6/8. My Boy Scout Leader training
through the District will be next Spring. By my calculations, at a minimum
( #2 son through Eagle) BSA will have the pleasure of my company for
the next ten years. I am really looking forward to it !!!
By way of helping me, all of you terrific folks out there stay active on this
server and on the Scouting Newsgroups, I have learned more then I ever
anticipated! THANK YOU!
As an aside, glad you are on the road to recovery Mike! A missing
Blackeagle would leave a extremely large hole in the ether.
