I would definitely meet through the summer. I've been in Troops that closed
down for the summer and ones that met all year and I prefer the second.
When you close down for a quarter of the year (3 months) you lose momentum
and probably boys. In the fall you have to start up from a dead stop. Yes,
attendance is down in the summer--that's why we only meet alternate weeks.
(It also gives the SM an occasional evening off).
We meet alternate weeks instead of every week in the summer. Activities are
very much the same summer & winter--perhaps more outdoor activities in
summer but we'll start doing some outdoor things as soon as it gets warm and
stays light late enough and continue the same into the fall. Some meetings
are very different; in 2 weeks we're going to a water park for the day
instead of holding an evening meeting.
We also ease uniform rules in the summer, allowing Scout t-shirts.
