Just returned from the National Council Meeting (took a week's R&R in Maui
afterwards) and thought I would fill everyone in on my observations of the
There were three major areas of emphasis introduced at the meetings:
1. Tiger Mania
2. Crime Prevention Program
3. Rural Emphasis Program
I'll elaborate on the Tiger Mania program here and address Crime prevention
program in another post. I didn't pay much attention to the Rural Emphasis
Program since our council is 100% urban.
A new effort to promote the Tiger program among all packs nationwide with the
exception of LDS units ( they have their own programs for youth this age).
Includes key enhancements and improvements:
Tiger Cub group is now called Tiger Cub den.
Dens are now part of a pack - not just affiliated with a pack.
Tiger Cub dens meet twice a month.
Attendance at all pack meetings urged.
Enhanced and improved Family Activity Packet.
New Tiger Cub Resource Book (program helps for big ideas).
Permanent emblem to be worn on the Cub Scout uniform (under right hand pocket
for Tiger graduates)
New participation belt totem (with beads) for Tiger Cubs.
Tiger tracks depict each of the seventeen big ideas (through icons).
Orange t-shirt as the official uniform for Tiger Cubs (and adult partners).
New Tiger Cub coach neckerchief.
Based on my attendence at the session, the program will now have more
structure. The Tiger Cub Group Coach will not be a den leader. "Shared
leadership" is still part of the program, but each den is encouraged to
select one coordinator from among the participating parents to make sure the
program moves forward.
They have also introduced a Tiger Cub belt, and a Tiger Cub Parent's Pin.
You're council should have already received or will receive shortly a
complete Tiger Cub Mania kit including posters, banners, balloons etc.
