In our pack, we have the Tigers learn the Bobcat requirements prior to their
transition in May. At the May pack meeting, they are transitioned into a
Wolf den and given the Bobcat award on the same night. This seems to work
very well. In addition, we try to have a den leader lined up by the May
transition. Thirdly, we have an active summer program with usually 5 or 6
pack activities available for the new den to attend. Our first awards are
handed out at the August Pack meeting which is also a pack picnic.
I have had boys join my den in late May, June, and July (recruted by
the boys during the summer). I have given them an informal Bobcat ceremony
in one of our summer den meetings by giving them one of those sticker labels
for Bobcat. It is unofficial of course but the boys seem to appreciate the
