Hello everyone; I have a small problem - I think.
I am a Cub Master at a Church. This Church has both a Troop for Boy Scouts
about 30 boys and in my Cub Scout Program I have about 51 Cubs.
My younger son is in the second year of Cubs and my older son 13 is in his
Second Year in Boy Scouts. His Boy Scouts Troop has some very rude boys which
created several problems with my son and 3 of his closest friends in the
These boys ALWAYS make fun of my son because he likes to read, and very
serious in doing the things for Scouting Program. He volunteer for Youth
Programs etc. My son is very outgoing and doing his best working toward his
Eagle - which he aim for since his Tiger Cub days. My son is smart and the
other Scouts knows that so I guess that is the main reason they are giving
him a hard time.
Bottom Line: My son wants to QUIT this TROOP because of this - and we have
brought this to the young SM (26) and he said mention that this is part of
growing up. Well, nothing has changed and my son has not attending a meeting
in 3 weeks and is very hurt because of this. So my wife and I was talking to
some of our friends and mention about another Troop in out Town which they
are a member and was very pleased with Ground Rules that have.
Well, my wife and sons visited the Parents OPEN Night this week with this new
TROOP and my sons fell in LOVE with this TROOP because on their Programs and
Scheduled Events and he knew couble of the Scouts as well. So we are going
through with the Transfer Papers etc. Now 4 boys are transfer out to join my
son and this new TROOP in the same town. I am glad for my son and my other
son and will support them with their decision.
However, now here my concerns. I am a Cub Master which a part of my job is to
promote/encourage my Webelos to go up and join the Boy Scouts Program or
expose them of it - with the same Church correct???? My own personal feeling
are playing a Major role here - because I totally disagree with the events
that took place ( I really don't want to get into more detail here - but I
will reply privately ) and how it was handled by the SM. So here I am a CM
and supposed to encourage MY CUBS who I devoted my whole time to and LOVE
VERY MUCH - to promote them to a Boy Scout Program which I disagree with. Boy
- this is VERY TOUGH to do because it goes against what MY Heart Believes.
I have scheduled a meeting with the Boy Scouts Board for this Troop to go
over the issues to readdress the IDEA of Scouting and what is ALL ABOUT for
