since you're in my district, I've seen you at Roundtable, I thought I'd give
you some help on this one.
Our pack would like to begin to improve our uniforming. We also need to
have a uniform inspection, which hasn't happened in a couple years.
1) How do you go about having a uniform inspection? When do you do it?
Who does it? Brass?
Have your Unit Commissioner or an associated troop do it. If they aren't
available, how about your Chartering organization (with a little pre-coaching
on what to look for)? If all else fails, the Pack Committee could do it. The
inspection should be held prior to your rechartering, but since its been a few
years, if you've already rechartered, don't wait. You might also have a den
level pre-inspection so that the parents have time to correct any errors.
2) Is there some way to get a hold of some additional uniform shirts,
both blue and khakki (sp)?
Maggie Jones runs the district's uniforming closet. She might have what you
need immediately, but she will look for what you want and call you if it comes
in. Her home phone is 772-6164. She lives in Berthoud, but the number is a
Longmont phone. She works at Ball Aerospace, so try after work hours or leave
3) What about hats? Is it ok to use the "Wolf" hat during the bear
year? At $8.10 apiece, I'd rather try to get the boys a belt,
neckerchief and proper shirt. We have no Pack policies regarding
uniforming. Then next year, we'd invest in Webelos hats.
There are only 2 Cub hats, a Wolf/Bear with a Cub Scout symbol and a Webelos.
These are commonly considered optional esp. since most uniform inspections are
held inside and hats are bad manners inside. Try for the shirt, neckerchief
and belt first. And get your pack to set that uniforming policy!
Hope this helps a bit.
