>From my understanding, National has frowned on District and Council derby's
because they end up promoting too much competion. In their view, the Pinewood
Derby is supposed to be a fun, adult/child event (mine, too). Not the
knock-down, drag-outs that sometimes occur when parents get overinvolved. By
not endorsing the higher-level competitions, they hope to try to eliminate
some of the problems we all put up with when we run our pack derbies.
Now, since all of us listen well to National, the Connecticut Rivers Council
'is' holding a Council Derby in April, a run-off of the champions from the 13
districts. We do this once every couple of years or so. But all the districts
have championship derbies every year. We know how each pack runs its derby
differently, try getting 13 districts to agree on how to run a Council derby!
Anyway, talk to your DE. He will be able to find out if there are any
district or coucnil derbies scheduled.
and a good ol' Bear, too!
