Here's an update to my earlier e-mail to all interested or prospective Scuba
Staff for the '97 Jambo. Bob Tallent has now been selected as the Scuba
Chair (Volunteer Scouter and PADI Course Director). We need your address,
certification, council, position in Scouting, telephone number, and your
name if you are interested. If you contacted me before, I have, by now,
sent you a private e-mail. If you missed my earlier e-mail here it is again.

Previously sent e-mail............
Jambo'97 Scuba is now starting to ramp up! Had a telephone conversation
with Bob Tallent (Scuba Chairperson for ' 97 Jambo). Bob has been chair for
the last two or three Jamboree Scuba efforts. Joining him will be most of
the team that we had at the '93 Jamboree (I was one of the certified Scuba
instructors at '93 and have already signed on for '97.) The good news is
that with the success of '93 with over 17,000 Scouts going through Scuba
instruction, Scuba will be expanding its operation with the addition of
another pool to be built and with that a requirement for increased staff.
The search is on now for interested volunteer Scouters/Explorers who are
certified Scuba divers or interested non-divers to serve as Assistants.
Additionally, certified Scuba Instructors are needed to instruct on one of
three teams of
instructors. Two of the team leaders have been tenatively identified,
Jerry Wall from West Monroe, LA and Chuck Puchon from Fort Huachuca,
Arizona. Additionally, Jim Guard from Lakeland, Florida has been selected
as Vice-Chair. Certified divers will perform a variety of assignments
including: Assistants (in the water) serving with Instructors, Scuba
equipment maintainers, Pre-dive checks, pool maintenance, Snorkeling
Assistants, etc... Additionally, a large non-diver staff of about 75 in
number will perform administrative and quartermaster responsibilities within
the two teams. With the additional pool for '97, clearly over 17,000 Scouts
(possibly even 40,000 which will be a new Diving record) will once again
If you are interested, contact me (email@example.com) or Bob
(firstname.lastname@example.org) via E-mail. Don't forget to include
information on your certification, if any. But at a minimum send your
address, phone number, position in Scouting, Council., e-mail address. We
will tell you when and how to apply. This is a great '97 Jambo opportunity!
As Bob says one of the fringe benefits is that we have a Great Time!
