He's not correct, but I can understand the confusion.
When Venture/Varsity was created (1989 wasn't it) as a name for older boy
patrols in troops there was immediate confusion with Varsity Scouting which
was a separately chartering program for older boys. It is this Varsity
that wears the orange tabs.
What we were left with was two DIFFERENT programs using the term Varsity.
The Troop Varsity program was similar to Venture, except that Venture dealt
with High Adventure and Varsity dealt with athletics.
About a year ago I remember reading, but have been unable to confirm where,
that to eliminate the confusion the name of the IN TROOP Varsity program
was being changed to Venture. Thus, Venture would now encompass both the
high adventure crew and the athletic team within the troop. There was no
change in the stand alone Varsity program. It is still as it was and is
still the unit that wears the orange loops.
Venture/Varsity, now Venture, remains part of the troop structure, with no
separate registration or orange loops.
I, too, would like someone to post the reference about the NAME CHANGE in
the troop Varsity program.
