Re: Scouts news profile

I think generally Scouts really do have a good over all profile - just that
Scouts don't pursue it or court the media.
Recently a Scout at a local troop made front page news in all the local
papers when he found four gold American coins on a city owned piece of
property where the troop was doing a service project. The Scout was a coin
collector and knew the value of the coins but acted as a Scout should and
turned them in to city officals.
There was a public outcry when this honesty was rewarded by the city saying
it had to keep the coins as state law precludes them being returned to the
finder as most found property can be. Found on city property = it is city
The front page articles went on for several days and the city has now
decied that whiel the coins cannot be claimed by the Scout in question -
the city can set aside money for the Scouts to use for public service
projects in that city.
Could not have been planned better if a PR man had been hired to handle it
and left a lasting impression in people's minds.
