I also agree that TroopMaster 4.0 is as good as I've seen.
My biggest complaint was with the format of the reports
(mainly it took several pages to publish a complete Troop
Roster). Sam Edwards (the author) now allows you to export
data to ASCII files, but you still have to clean things up
with a word processor or spreadsheet. I solved the problem by
writing numerous routines that extract the data that I need
directly from his database. Programming experts will Freak at
how he stores his data. He has not cleaned everything up from
the days of "floppy disk" operating systems and "Old fashion
sloppy programming". My routines are not written any better,
and have to be "hacked up" every time he sends out a new
software release, but they fit our needs.
Anyone that programs in BASIC should be able to convert them
to their needs. I started my program thinking that it was
going to be a simple project, but reading C++ data with BASIC
and trying to figure out how SAM had written things, turned
out to be a BIG project. (I spent four days figuring out how
to determine if an Eagle Scout had any palms). My report may
develop problems with Troops larger than 50 of 60 scouts. If
you are interested in a copy E-Mail me privately.
P.S. I do not bother with TroopLedger 2.0.
