Hello Jim -
>...Now I'm getting ready for
>Council JLT which we call "Brownsea 22." I'd be interested to know
>names other Councils have for Council JLT.
In the Tennessee Valley Council (north Alabama) we use the week-long Junior
Leader Training Conference format and call it "White Fire." Over the years
I have had direct contact with folks who worked with JLTC's under a lot of
different names ("Sunburst," "Bear Claw," "Golden Eagle," and other
critters come to mind <g>).
The original "Brownsea Double-Two" (early/mid '70's?) had its own study
guide. I have been told that it was different from the Troop Leader
Development format which preceded it and the Junior Leader Training
Conference format which came later.
I understand that a nearby Council to us liked the Brownsea format so much
that they used it for years after the introduction of JLTC. Does your
Council still use the original Brownsea study guide or do you now use the
When we were setting up to do our Council's first JLTC in the mid-80's, a
good Scouting friend did a brief study of the parts of the TLD and Brownsea
study guides that he was able to find. His conclusion was that both
formats have strengths and that JLTC snuck in and grabbed the best of both!
We decided to go with the JLTC format and have been happy as clams ever
Whichever way...working with a crackerjack staff made up of sharp
hand-picked kids from all over the Council is a true privilege to die for!
Better yet...it's a HOOT! (BIG praise from a Fox!)
