Follow Me Boys

I can remember watching the movie Follow Me Boys at the old Mars Theater
in Lafayette, Indiana on Scout Saturday. This was one of the grand old
theaters that seated hundreds and when the movie was over everyone had
enjoyed the movie, most shedding a tear, laughing, and hitting the edge
of the seat. A couple of years ago I tried to get a copy of of this
movie and was lucky to end up getting one as a gift. During my search, I
found that video stores in operation around 1985 or so had copies.
However, around that time, Disney stopped distribution of the movie. In
checking I learned with the help of a Blockbusters manager that the movie
was still stocked at about $90 a copy, but that Disney claimed that it
could not release the copies due to an ongoing court battle over royalty
rights to the video. Seems that the heirs to one of the actors thought
they should be getting a larger cut. We were assured two years ago that
when the litigation ended the movie would be made available.
Perhaps the reasons for not distributing the movie have been resolved. I
hope that the negotiations with Disney for a release are a success.
If you can get a copy, it is well worth watching. Of course you may want
a box of tissues handy. :-) I've seen many a Scouter shed tears watching.
