I have been reading about the questions and comments regarding the Tiger Cub
program and thought I would just add my two cents worth.
I am the committee chairman and a webelos den leader for our pack, and am
glad to say we seem to have a very successful tiger program.
We are one of the packs that have chosen to ignore the "pack program"
regarding the tigers. In our program the tigers use the Big Ideas book and
have a Tiger "Den" meeting once a month. And all of the ideas do not have to
come directly from the book. You are only looking at 8 or 9 meetings so I
can't see how you could run out of ideas. Other than only having one den
meeting a month as compared to 3 - 4 a month in cubs, the tigers participate
in all other pack activities and meetings (this years pinewood derby 1st and
2nd place went to tigers). But a tiger must always be accompanied by an
As far as any problems with tigers attending council events, we have none.
The only event they attend as a tiger is our Field Day (in October) all
other council events are after they graduate to Wolves in May. This might be
different for other councils but you just need to inform the parents that
the event is sponcered by the council and tiger participation is not allowed.
Otherwise let the tigers participate, they will be much more active and
happier, and you will be glad you did.
