I am pleased to learn that there may be some error in the 33% + 17% = 100%
post. At first, I thought my math degree from 1950 was no longer valid.
The new Governor of KY, Paul Patton, spoke at the Shawnee Trails Council
Dinner last month. Although not an Eagle, he is a fellow Silver Beaver and a
long-time strong supporter of Scouting.
Until Uniform Police have intelligent, precise, well-written instructions on
uniforming, their effect is nil. What effect might they have on a young man
who needs a $125 uniform but his parent(s) have been laid off for 6 months?
As a MS/AL Southerner, I would not ask anyone to take the Interpreter Strip
"Drawl" off his shirt. 8-)
For years I was as rigid as they get about proper uniforming but, when I see
a SM that has had beneficial effect on hundreds of boys for 20-30 years, who
am I to tell him: (1) temp patches go on the RIGHT pocket (2) medals go
above the pocket (3) the major color of two square knots face the wrong
direction (3) the head of the ribbon-suspended Silver Beaver faces right as
you look down on it, etc. Sometimes, effectiveness is the important criterion.
