Someone already mentioned conacting the local scout council and
mentioned the SAC museum as a place to visit (it is a nice museum). It
happens to be located on the grounds of Offutt Air Force Base.

If you don't mind tent camping as a place to stay, the Nebraska state
park system has very nice campgrounds. According to my Rand McNally
atlas, there are 2 campgrounds about half way between Omaha and Lincoln
where I-80 crosses the Platte River (both less than 10 miles from I-80).
There are several others around Lincoln, and about 5 between Grand
Island and Kearney. The cost is usually really inexpensive ($5-10 per
night per site) and most have shower facilities available. For more
