Everyone must have a hobby. Some of us have possibly gone overboard.
(Read On). Those of us who are very involved have learned to do two or
more tasks at once and to delegate tasks to others.
I am Stephen Mintz and I have been lurking, reading and sometimes
responding for the last several months. I am a computer programmer and
have a job with much overtime. I also have 10 clients which take up 8
hours per week.
On the Scouting Side: I am the Scoutmaster of Troop 198 - 9 boys (three
eagles in 3 years), I am the District Boy Scout Training Coordinator, I
am working on my Cub Scout Woodbadge Ticket so I am on both training
teams. I am on the Northeast Jewish Committee on Scouting where I am
responcible for disemenation for the Frank L. Weil Honor Jewish Unit
awards and the congratulary Eagle certificates for the committee.
I have been Scoutmaster for 6 years and have missed 14 outings during
that time. We camp over 50 days and nights each year. I am busy and I
am having fun. I also watch very little television. Last year the
District recognized my involvement with the District Award of Merit.
As an example of delegation: Our Troop is performing the flag ceremony
for a local Arabian Equine Society today. The Senior Patrol Leader
called and obtained the boys, the Advancement committee called the
hotel and arranged the flags (he is interested in flags and has a
collection). The transportation committee chairman has arranged the
cars. I am told that I will be a passenger today as well.
Total time: 10 minutes of my time and I also discussed other Troop
related items during that period so it may be less.
I have responded to you and have introduced myself to the group
(two things at once).
So, What is the balance? - I may be the wrong person to ask, but I have
