Sometimes you need to be a little careful when letting the
patrols come up with their names. As a number of people have
said they can be very creative. In our troop we were starting
to get some pretty wild names like the Mutant Purple Barney
Bashers patrol. Giving some typical Scoutmaster wisdom, I
suggested that the patrols consult their Scout Handbook for
some ideas. I told them they could use anything they found in
the Scout Handbook for a patrol name. One patrol found the page
(I don't know the page number off hand) where there are pictures
of reptiles. One of the reptiles is a lizard called a Hellbender.
Since I said they could use anything they found in the Scout
Handbook I had to let them keep the name. I did try to talk them
out of it but to no avail. So we now have a Hellbender Patrol.
BTW my son is the patrol leader of that patrol. I wonder where he
gets his sense of humor from?
