On Saturday Feb 24, our associated Cub pack had a blue and gold banquet.
Our Scoutmaster could not attend so I an ASM along with our PLC went as troop
representation. The Cub Leader had asked our new DE to make a presentation to
the boys on his experiences as a former employee of Disney. On Thu. B4 the
he called the DE to REMIND him about his commitment to do this, to which the
DE replied that he had no recollection about it. The DE then said no problem
that HE would be there.
Saturday rolled around, No DE but another leader from a neighboring town
was there to QUOTE "Do a presentation for Council" This turned out to be a
Friends of Scouting presentation.
Myself and the other adult leaders present were very upset and insulted.
This was supposed to be something for the boys and instead, WE, the adult
VOLUNTEERS and parents were hit up from council to donate more money.
The questions/problem I have are as follows:
1 What do I say to the DE about this?
2 Yesterday the DE called to ask the SM if he could have someone come to our
troop meeting to do a FOS presentation to our parents we said no
3 The only time that we hear from the district/council is when they want
from us. We never get any other info in a timely manner (the Klondike the
council just held, we recieved the info on it 2 days AFTER it was held)
4 FOS should not be pitched to parents and Volunteers, we already donate our
time and money to the program willingly and don't need the council guilting
into giving more
5 The FOS presentation should be well thought out and informative,(not the
half baked and poorly presented job I saw at the B&G) and should be pitched
the business community( along with the benefits they will get from supporting
Well there is more, but, I just want to open this up to discussion and see
you all feel. Sorry to always seem to be opening a can of worms when I write.
