Greetings! I have been "lurking" on Scouts-L for a month or so and have been
remiss in introducing myself. Raised in Michigan in a northern suburb of
Detroit. Loved being in cub scouts, boy scouts, and explorer scouts.
Unfortunately I found girls and gasoline before completing my eagle. Have
wonderful memories of BSA as a child, memories that include my dad and mom.
Got active again when my son joined Tiger Cubs. He is now in college (and
inactive in scouts), but I am still very active. Primary emphasis on our
troop- advancement chairman, hiking merit badge leader, organizer for high
adventure backpacking, driver of old van, etc. Also unit commissioner for a
pack and troop. My wife calls me the scout that refuses to grow up.
More than enough about me. Now the request for information.
I am logistics man for our troop's Philmont contingent this summer. We are
flying to Colorado Springs and getting a rental van for local sightseeing -
for 1 day. Then we will take commercial transportation to Philmont. Any
* cheap place to stay/camp near Colorado Springs
* what to see near CS
* good place to eat near CS
* any other helpful hints would be appreciated.
Cheers and TIA. Bill Schoonmaker
