Mic-O-Say was actually founded by H. Roe Bartle in the Pony Express Council.
(St. Joseph, MO). When the Chief moved to K.C., he established a program
there as well. Ever wonder where the name of the K.C. football team
The program has been instrumental in keeping scouts active in their units
for longer tenure. It includes a series of ranks -- brave, warrior, fire
builder, tom-tom beater, runner, keeper of the sacred bundle, sachem,
medicine man. Advancement is usually one rank per year and requires
continued participation in unit and summer camp program. In KC they also
have a rank of shaman. If you ever get a chance to observe a Mic-O-Say
tap out (Thursday nights during the summer camp season if you are in St.
Joseph area, don't miss it--I have seen several hundred scouts and scouters
