A post stated something like "Scouting Coordinators used to be the term
used, sponsors should change when we do".
As a SCOUTING COORDINATOR for my church (a United Methodist Church) and
as the Chartered Organization Representative for the Boy Scout Troop
sponsored by my church, I have never felt that there was any conflict
between the titles, nor that the entire organization of the United
Methodist Church should change it's doctrine or terminology to coincide
with the BSA (or any organization for that matter).
As SC for my church, my responsibilities and duties extend BEYOND
coordinating BSA unit activities; I also coordinate with 3 GSUSA units,
and if any othet youth group not operated in whole by the church
desires to use our facilities, they too would fall into my purview.
I think it is safe to say that as volunteer Scouters serving as
District officers or Commissioners, we take it upon ourselves to
continuously discover and understand not only the Scouting movement,
but the policies and doctrine of our SPONSORS. Let's not get into
expecting "everyone to fall in step" with BSA changes.
JMHO, insignificant as it may be.
