In reference to grumbling among district adults who don't get recognized, I'd
say .. first of all that I used to be a bobwhite too! Secondly ... that's
the way the cookie crumbles. There are always those who grumble about us vs
them -- whether in business, personal and Scouting life. The best way to put
an end to it, I've found is not to take part in the grumbling. In your case,
if someone grumbles because a favorite of the chairman rec'd the award of
merit, tell them you think they certainly deserved it.
On another wave .. why not ask the district chairman to appoint a committee
for awarding district awards. Have the committee develop some criteria for
deciding that is passed on from year to year. This is what we do.
