Branching out into new things, as always, I have put together a detailed
graphics persentation on hypothermia - its prevention, identification,
and treatment. The presentation includes both land and cold water
immersion hypothermia, and was prepared using PowerPoint 4.0.
The link to the download page is in the Serious Side of Scouting page,
one which many of you have visited before.
If you do not already have PowerPoint, you can download a free viewer
from Microsoft, and I've provided a separate page that will take you
directly to the PowerPoint viewer download page at Microsoft.com.
Viewers are available for Mac, Windows 3.x, and windows 95 / Windows NT
platforms. All are free, and you can pass on as many copies as you like
without offending Microsoft. Can you believe they are offering this
free? I can - no doubt it helps them sell more full packages...
Still, I hope it's my content that matters here! I think you will be
pleased by what you see, even if there is a LOT of information there. I
find that all too many of us are rather vague on just what hypothermia
is, what it can do, how to identify it, and how to deal with it when we
find it. This presentation should help you become more familiar with
There are some illustrations, and I think the one I used to demonstrate
the problems associated with conductive cooling will make you both wince
and chuckle. Let me know, eh?
