To all the Scout Song Fellows...
I've been making changes and upgrading The Modern Scout Songster and have
begun work on a MS-Word PC version.
If any of you who accepted a Beta version of the Mac/Claris Songster have
comments, ideas, change suggestions, critiques, or whatever I would like to
here from you. The feedback hasn't exactly been overwhelming, since I found
about 25 items to change such as authorless or tuneless songs and stuff I
know that the feild people, if they looked at it found some more.
Mike Low has been working on a Mac - Hypercard version of the Songster.
Thanks to Mike, there will be an easier to use more universal Mac format.
PC Users: In the process of changing the Songster to PC format, the file
name of the songs become harder to understand due to the 8 character
filename limitation of DOS. I have typically used the song title as the
file name and in the Mac world it worked fine, but it leave the filename
sometime difficult to figure out when chopped to eight characters in DOS.
(I understand that Windows95 and the 32 bit MS-Word PC don't have this
difficulty but I haven't contacted a Scouter with this setup)
My best solution at this time is to sort the files by the table of contents
and make subdirectories for each letter of the alphabet. This would greatly
narrow down the number of filenames to chose from when looking for the
Another solution would be to number the files, but that wouldn't be as nice
and would make additions to the book have an out of sequence number.
IF ANYONE HAS A BETTER IDEA...please send a suggestion directly to me
firstname.lastname@example.org instead of the list.
Upgraded Mac/Claris versions are available for E-Mail. (version 0.5b)
Please send a message to email@example.com with the words "want Mac
Songster" in the subject line.
