I will not jump into the thread of alcohol and marijuana...
>But if the
>scout oath in those countries includes anything like the "physically
>strong and mentally awake" clause of the BSA, then the Scout Leaders
>in that country should stress that use of marijuana and other drugs
>does violate their oath as scouts.
The case, Bob, is that the inclusion of the clause of being "physically
strong, mentally awake, and morally straight" is a UNIQUE feature
of the Scout Promise just in the BSA. I have found no trace of such
wording in any other version of Scout Promises around the world.
In fact, in adding these words on its inception, the BSA went away of
a established standard wording agreed by the world-wide Movement.
My source is "Scouting 'round the world" WSB, 1990 and some other
Promise materials I received in my day from the World Bureau in
By the way, our POR here in Argentina has at least one rule against
the use of alcohol and intoxicating substances during activities. It
forbide it to any member.
