Hi Jan! Computers are GREAT, aren't they?
"UUDECODE" is one of several ways that files and graphics
can be sent between folks via email without them becoming
"mush" on either end. What UUDECODE/ENCODE does is to
"scramble and place letters on" the "ones and twos" that
make up a binary file (either graphic or a program). It
also helps in the sending of extremely long text files as
well, and it provides SOME security against "prying eyes"
as the files leave your machine, goes through someone else's
on the way to my machine.
To "unscramble and return the ones and two" to the file, all
you need is a UUDECODE decoding program. There are several
out there on the 'Net, and if you can't find one, send me
some private email and I'll send you the one that I use.
There are some emailing programs, like the one I'm using now
(Eudora Light) that will "decode" the files for you if you set
it up right.
Here's the "scheme" that you should follow in getting a file
from our archives. I'm going to use "bsalogo.pcx" as an
1) get the zipped file from our archives (Bsalogo.zip).
2) download it to your machine
3) using PKUNZIP or WinZip, unzip the archive (you should
get a file called "bsalogo.uue" or something like that...it
should end in *.uue)
4) use the UUDECODE program to decode it (the result will
be a file called "bsalogo.pcx")
5) you can either archive or delete the bsalogo.zip and
bsalogo.uue files, and then use the graphic in whatever program
Hope this helps. BTW gang, Jessica downloaded the new copy of
Eudora, and set up the lenght for me. I hope that this finally
will solve the problem that some of you expressed in the past
with the length of my message lines. If not, please let me
know, and we can go back to "square one" again.
