It's fairly obvious that Martijn does not think that using marijuana is
all that bad. It's also obvious that Martijn doesn't know a lot about the
effects of marjuana. It IS addictive. It leads to the use of harder drugs. It
causes cancer. In addition, it is illegal to use in the US.

I would suggest that people are afraid of what they do know about
illegal drugs, including marijuana.
