Normally, Scout Sunday is the Sunday of the week in which the anniversary
of the founding of BSA (Feb 8) falls. As such, it was today (February 4).
And similarly Scout Shabbat or Scout Sabbath would be at the end of the
week, Friday evening, Feb 9, or Saturday, Feb 10.
However, it's not hard and fast, and there is a lot of flexibility in it.
If you missed today, then schedule it another time according to the program
in your church, synagogue or other religious institution. Remember also,
the the Girl Scout anniversary is in March (sorry, don't remember the exact
day), so there is an appropriate reason to hold it then.
Our troop attended services at our sponsoring church this morning. It was
the first time since I've been there that it was actually held on the
"right" day. Last year, it was in April. This year, we worked with the
church early to get it on the schedule instead of at the last minute.
That gave the minister a chance to include the Scouting theme in his sermon
Similarly, our council Jewish Committee on Scouting holds an annual
council-wide Scout Shabbat, rotating it around various synagogues (we
have no synagogue-sponsored units) and working it into their schedules.
This year it's on February 23, but last year it was in May.
