They should have the date and more information about Shiloh. I looked on my
old calendars and my troop went on April 8, 1994 so you have the time about
Also, watch out for the West Tenn Council Camporee which is usually takes
place the same weekend. ( I can never understand why ) The recommended
camping in all literature will be the Battlefield Campground and Cafe but I
don't recommend it because their facilities are far too primitive for the
number of people who show up that weekend. Pickwick State park isn't very
far away you might consider staying there. You can get hiking trail and
award info from the above address.
I don't know about a university nearby. I can tell you that just doing
Shiloh will fill up your weekend and bring those really good hiking shoes
because you can walk faster that you can drive the the Shiloh Park. You
could do well bicycling or roller blading. The riverbluff road which takes
you to the indian mounds is closed to cars because of the erosion of the
river bluff you if you want to see some of the good historical stuff you
have to hike it anyhow.
