What do you Cub Leader training gurus think about the new Cub Scout
Leader Supplemental training? We just recently received here in
For you non-Cubbers, a couple of years ago the basic training for Cub
Scout Leaders was reduced from 8 hours to 4 hours. A few topics were
dropped. Now BSA has distributed syllabuses for 2 hour supplemental
training that is supposed to be presented 4 times/year. These
sessions go into topics in more depth than the shortened CSLBT
In addition, there are several short sessions that appear to be
designed to be presented IN THE PACK by pack leadership.
Given the problems we have with attracting leaders to supplemental
training (our district is at 90% for top leaders having Basic
Training, but our supplemental sessions are poorly attended) I was
wondering if BSA is going to formally recognize participation in this
new training. By that I mean are any current requirements for leader
awards (aka square knots) going to be changed?
Has anyone come up with a plan to implement this new training? Any
word on recognition?
Our district has talked about coming up with a circular patch to be
given out at CSLBT with segments to be awarded at the various
supplemental training sessions.
