It's been a while since I've vented on the list. Our Cub Scout pack has
done the pinewood derby, raingutter regatta, as well as the rocket
derby. At least for Cubs, I would STRONGLY RECOMMEND AGAINST the rockets.
For those of you who haven't done this before, here are my reasons:
1 - The rockets are hard to make (and we used the old balsa kits)
2 - Getting the thing wound up is impossible for Cubs, and very time
consuming. This leads to a very "dad-oriented" event.
3 - Nothing comes close to the look on the face of a Cub whose rocket,
under the stress of a full wind-up, exhibits a fatal weakness and
