A few weeks ago, we discussed Merit Badges during troop meetings and
Group merit badge classes.
I would like to ask for your thoughts and ideas about having special
guest presenters into troop meetings to teach certain skills of rank.
Our present leaders can handle many of the items, but I thought it would
be fun for the scouts and expose them to different people and their
hobbies or professions. I can see it working for things like Map and
Compass (which I enjoy but have a limited knowledge of), Identifying
posionous plants, Identifying native plants, Identifying wild animals,
I would leave it up to the scouts to decide if they would like this to
happen, use adult resources to locate them, and have the SPL/ASPL/PL call
or write to invite them.
My concern is this gets back to the "group" teaching and doesn't have the
individual scout responsible for his own advancement in these areas.
As Always, Thanks for your input!
