You, like lots of others, get so excited about *finally finding* a
Scouting-related list that doesn't yell and scream and cuss at each
other...and you started to read everything except that first set of files
that come to you.
When you subscribe, you get a "confirmation message", followed by another
message with some stats of no use to anyone except your system's administrator.
Then, you get the WELCOME note, which was written by Jon Eidson with a lot of
input and suggestions from many of us "old geezers" on the list. The letter
starts out in true "Mike Walton" format, telling you that the message IS
quite long, but will aid you in deciding if this is what you wanted, tells
you about the list and what "typically" goes on here (which isn't too far
from the mark!), and finally, gives you some basic commands and nettiquette

If you didn't get it (or like Bill, don't remember it), send a note to the
LISTSERV (NOT to the list; the listserv address is:
with the ONLY line in the body
GET SCOUTS-L WELCOME SCOUTS-L
(that's from the INDEX file, which you can also get from the same location.)

This SHOULD be right, since I got it from the INDEX. If not, try sending the
same message without the first "Scouts-L" (GET WELCOME SCOUTS-L).
