OK. It's always nice to have an easy question instead of arguing about
Board of Review questions. The important thing to remember about SCOUTS-L
and all other Listserv(tm) automatic mail lists is that you need to
remember (or store in your handy AOL addressbook so you don't forget them)
2 email addresses. One of these is the one you use to 'post' your
comments for everybody else to read, or to send your message:
The Other Address, (I call it the Command Address) is what you use when
you need to 'talk' to the machine (it's not a real person) that is running
this list. This address is: LISTSERV@tcubvm.is.tcu.edu
This Command Address is what you use when you are going on vacation and
want to halt your mail for awhile, or to GET files that are stored in the
List Archive. This is where you need to send the commands.
The commands themselves are very short words. It seems impolite, but the
machine won't care and infact prefers that you use the proper commands
because then it can do its job right for you the first time!
To get the Welcome message again if you didn't save it, send a regular
email msg to the Command Address (noted above).
|------ The command that means 'send me the following filename'
| |--------|-------- the filename (always 2 words for Scouts-L)
v v v
GET SCOUTS-L WELCOME
How do you know what the file name is? You need an index list. To get
the Index list (do this 1-2 times a year because it changes over time)
send a message to the Command Address (noted above).
In all cases you will get a reply message with your request from the
Listserv(tm) machine in a short time. Depending on the load on the
machine when you send your request and network traffic in general this can
be 5 min or 24-36hrs, (sometimes longer over major holidays when they may
do maintenance on the machine). Once in awhile, your msg just doesn't get
there (email is not perfect). If you haven't received your answer (or an
error msg) from the Listserv(tm) in 48hrs or more, then send your request
