Well...the phone rings and it's time to pack up and get ready to leave town
As many Americans know, this country is set to send 3800 military reserve
members overseas to support the peace operations in Bosnia, in addition to
about 20,000 active duty personnel mostly from military installations based in
southern and central Germany. The purpose of those soliders, sailors,
airmen and marines are to enforce the unsigned peace accords between all of
nations withing that country. That peace accord will be signed in Paris
hopefully within the coming week.
My parent unit, the 21st Theather Support Command, based in Kaisersaultern,
Germany, has been alerted and elements have been deployed to several
locations in southern Europe to support this effort. My reserve unit, the
"Continential US Augmentation" (CONUS AUG) element to that unit has been
advised that their services will once again be needed to "round out" the
existing organization at Panzer Kaserne. As the newly selected Labor and
Contractual Officer, I will be leaving here on either Friday or Saturday for
15 days to "pull out the ramps" for those coming from the States and other
locations to support the mission.
As you can perhaps read between the lines, this again puts another tug at an
already string-laden household. Jessica will be still be here, and as soon
as I get either America Online or GNN access in that area, I will be back to
rejoin everyone here. In the meantime, I intend on setting my listmail to
either late Friday night or early Saturday morning, one of the last things
I'll do before I leave for the airport.
If there's any Scouters here from the K-town area, please write me back
privately concerning weather and email access availability. Additionally,
I've already have taken my wife's orders for items from Germany. The
present plan is that I return home to my family in time for Christmas
Morning (December 25); I
may be back here as early as December 23rd if my staff and I can get
everything done by then and if our "counterparts" return there in time. I
am looking forward to returning to the home where my Scouting experiences
began, but also am looking forward in doing a good job for those Army folk
which will be following me inbound toward enforcing a doable if not
difficult mission for our military forces...perhaps one of the most
difficult missions that we've ever had: keeping
three parties from once again restarting hostile actions toward each other,
while protecting ourselves from harm from them, the cold, and the ground
hazards which are numerous.
As always, I plan on posting when I can, through Jessica's account or by
having her to forward items to the list. If you sent me questions, please
be patient once again with me as I will get to them once I come back home
and after I enjoy about a week with my family.
I know that you all will be with our family and other families that are
being asked to once again serve at the pleasure of the American people.
While many of you and other Americans may not agree with or completely
understand our participation in this multination effort, I ask that you
support those being asked to go by way of your prayers, your thoughts, and
other appropriate ways
in which you can express your feelings.
Like I stated earlier, I'll be back, but it's time for me to once again
serve as the Major part of the title...
