Considering the wide range of topics discussed by this group, I think it's
useful to point out how one District attempts to deal with the issues. My
friend and fellow Assistant Scoutmaster, John Lyver, is coordinating a
"potpourri" training day for Patawomeck District, National Capitol Area
Council. This is the first time such training in our area has been organized
along the lines of a professional conference, with multiple, concurrent,
repeating "tracks" allowing individual leaders to attend sessions in which
they are most interested.
Of particular interest to me is our first offering of training related to
Special Needs. First, a panel discussion will be conducted to raise awareness.
This will be followed by two hours of interactive "tips and techniques"
discussions, addressing helps for Scouters, helps for Scouts, and program
I will be happy to e-mail a copy of the full agenda to interested parties. I
also plan to make available materials that may be useful.
