This isn't an "opinion" for Melanie, I have too much experience on her
side of the responsibility fence, and not enough answers. Because of
that, however, I am enjoying this thread! Carol's ideas were especially
My experience is of the nut not falling far from the tree variety. I
send out notes about every other week, with upcoming events, requests to
bring this or that supply to help with the ol' budget, when is the next
Pack meeting, who and when to turn in popcorn sales forms, etc. BTW this
is for a Bear Den (mostly 3rd graders). I do the notes because I *hate*
calling folks on the telephone (if only they all had e-mail, I wouldn't
worry about disturbing them!). Then I find myself calling them all
anyway, and referring back to "last week's note." In calling, I usually
discover about 50% haven't read the note, or had forgotten its contents
and mislaid it anyway. Yesterday the leader of the other Bear den, with
whom we meet and plan and basically do everything (including they get
my notes), asked me when is this activity and when/where is this other
activity. She'd passed out all the notes I gave for her den.
I find a lot of our kids are on a lower level for remembering things
than I expect, but when their parents can't remember either, I begin
to wonder...or maybe they can't read? hmm...
