Having read the several posts concerning the earning of Eagle palms, I figure
I've got a couple of pennies to spare, so....
The Boy Scout handbook, Scoutmaster handbook, and Advancement Guidelines (all
the latest editions) which I have all state the same thing, paraphrased:
"After becoming an Eagle, you may earns palms by: being active in your
Troop and Patrol for 3 months since becoming Eagle OR after award of last
palm..." and "earn five additional merit badges since becoming Eagle OR award
of last palm..." and "You may wear only the proper combination of palms to
represent the number of additional merit badges earned..."
Nowhere do I see the requirement to earn a bronze, then a gold, then a
silver. If the Scout has 15 merit badges beyond those required for Eagle,
then he has earned a silver palm. If he has 20 additional merit badges, then
he has a silver and a bronze, or two golds, or four bronzes! (I guess the
Eagle has a choice at that time! ;-)) If he has waited the required three
months since Eagle, use the part of the requirement which says "3 months
since becoming Eagle" to award the silver palm.
Why make the Scout wait another 6 months to wear the badge he has already
earned? The requirements do not state one before the other, and the last
time I looked we were still using immediate recognition for effort as one of
our tools/methods. :-)
