Congratulations on your troop's growth and your boys' new-found pride
in appearance! I find myself in something of an analogous situation.
My troop rechartered in July (almost 3 months late) with 5 scouts when
I became scoutmaster. I got 1 more in August and 1 in September.
Next Monday night, I'm getting 5 new scouts who are crossing over from
I too have begun to emphasize uniform more than my predecessor did.
My SPL always turns up in complete uniform including neckerchief (not
mandatory in our troop), and 1 young man showed up just recently in
brand new uniform, including trousers! Anyway, all the boys are
making more of an effort in that regard.
I'm also going to start occasional inspections at the 11/28 meeting.
The patrol with the best score each month gets a treat (probably me
washing their dishes after a meal on the next camping trip, or a dutch
oven full of hot biscuits at breakfast, or something like that). It's
worth the effort, IMO, to see a well-uniformed troop.
Anyway, it's good to see folks out there also embarking on rebuilding
projects. Good luck!
