Knives & Stones

To the collective wisdom of the group,
I'm looking for good old fashioned tips, tricks and techniques for sharping
pocket knives with a stone. Not a wheel or powered method, but the way my
granddaddy did his pocket knife, slow and steady with a hand stone to get an
edge that cut silk out of the air...
Unfortunatly, I didn't pay much attention so now need your assistance.
