This is such a simple concept. I don't understand why so many leaders have
such a problem with youth protection guidelines. If you are "Scouting,"
there should never be any one-on-one activity. A Scouter from my council has
related a story that he was accused of abuse once by a scout that he'd
isolated from the group to discuss some misbehavior. The Scout later accused
the leader of hitting him. The word got around his council and he says the
attack on his reputation was almost unbearable. The only saving grace was
that the boy, under further interrogation, recanted his tale of abuse and the
leader's name was cleared. Stories like this should make anyone who wants to
"go it alone" for simplicity sake, think again.
